What Is The church Of Christ?
Now that you have come to check us out, you may be wondering, just exactly “what is the church of Christ?” The Bible teaches us that we are to “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15, NKJV). The church of Christ is a people (Acts 2:47) who are intent on being “the church” that Jesus said He would build (Matthew 16:18-19). We have studied carefully the Scriptures and concluded that Jesus lived on this earth, died on the cross, was buried, raised from the dead on the third day and seen of witnesses before returning back to heaven to sit as “Lord and Christ” (Luke 24:27; 44-47; Acts 1:3; 1:9; 2:21-41). By planting the same seed (the word of God, Luke 8:11) as was preached and proclaimed in the first century (see your New Testament) we are encouraging people to leave sin and follow Christ. Believing that God calls us through the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14), we are convinced that all earnest seekers will not only find the truth (through efforts like ours) but will choose to apply those truths in their lives (John 6:44-45; Matthew 7:21-28).
As we continue our study we are attempting to do the work that Jesus assigned the church (His church, Matthew 16:18) and that is three-fold in nature. We continue to preach the word (2 Timothy 4:1-5; 1 Corinthians 1:23-24); to seek to build up one another (Ephesians 4:12-15) and to help those who are in need among God’s people (Acts 4:35). The answer we like to supply when someone asks us “what we will hear when we visit your services?” is simply “the Bible”. We study the Bible, read the Bible, teach the Bible and encourage others to walk in harmony with the Bible. Our worship, our work, yes, even our attitude and daily walk are fashioned by the word of God (Colossians 3:17). That’s what we are attempting to be, but many of us have some further work to do. What about you? We would be glad to sit with you and show you more about what the Bible teaches, just the Bible, only the Bible. Tell us when we can do that.
